Biography

Joey is a public interest/family law attorney that spent the first several years of his practice representing survivors of violence in civil protective order proceedings, (orders of protection, civil no contact orders for survivors of sexual assault, and stalking no contract orders) domestic relations court, (divorce, parentage, and child custody matters) and advocacy for students in schools for students dealing with Title IV violations, bullying, and special education issues. 

Joey is an Equal Justice Works Alumni having previously created the LGBTQ+ Anti-Violence and Safety Project (LASP) at Legal Aid Chicago where he primarily represented queer survivors of violence, trained hundreds of attorneys and other stakeholders across the state, as well as his host organization on providing culturally responsive legal services to the LGBTQ+ community. He has a passion for closing the justice gap, serving both the queer and intimate partner survivor population through trauma informed advocacy. Joey believes that everyone should be able to attain justice no matter their income and prides himself on his compassion and client-centered approach in his practice.
